A suspect was arrested moments after allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at a man in a wheelchair near police headquarters in Oklahoma City, authorities said.
Surveillance footage from outside the headquarters showed the man in a wheelchair crossing a street diagonally at around 8 a.m. July 2. Moments later, another man identified by police as Alexander Emery could be seen crossing the street before turning around and approaching the victim.
Emery, 38, appeared to light something before allegedly hurling the incendiary device at the man in the wheelchair.
After the object was thrown, the victim was momentarily surrounded by flames before Emery allegedly pushed the wheelchair.
“Emery ran at the victim and pushed him and his wheelchair back into the flames. The victim fell backwards out of his chair and was once again engulfed in the flames,” police said.
A passing vehicle stopped, and two people got out. A nearby Oklahoma City police detective and a bystander pulled the victim from the fire while another police officer detained Emery.
